Macroscopic fluctuation theory for single-file diffusion

We study the statistics of a tracer position in single-file diffusion, where particles are not allowed to overtake one another. We derive, using Macroscopic Fluctuation Theory, the large deviation function for impenetrable Brownian particles. For an arbitrary single-file system, a general formula for the variance in terms of the transport coefficients is obtained.
